The approximate 26,500 residents of Shoreview get to experience it all. They enjoy small town charm that includes an array of recreational activities, a thriving business community, excellent schools, lakes and plenty of wide-open spaces. On the flip side, the bustling capital city St. Paul and the Twin Cities metropolitan area is located about 10 miles to the northwest. Major transportation routes in and near the city provide easy access for commuting into the Twin Cities and the surrounding areas. Interstate 694 crosses east-west through the southern portion of the city and Interstate 35W runs north-south along the northwest corner of Shoreview. This community has been consistently ranked as one of the best cities in the metropolitan area to live. The Shoreview real estate market offers homes in a variety of architectural styles and prices with new properties constantly being built. Condominiums and townhouses can be found for under $100,000 and run up to approximately $300,000. Single-family homes start in the mid-$100,000s and run up to nearly $1 million for large homes with lake frontage and/or fantastic views and acreage.

One of the main draws to the Shoreview area is the endless year-round leisure and recreational opportunities. Annual events and festivities occur either in Shoreview or in the nearby areas. Each year during the last weekend of July, the city hosts the Slice of Shoreview at the Island Lake County Park. This festival is held to celebrate life in Shoreview and provides family oriented activities, entertainment and great food.

Shoreview has an excellent Parks and Recreation Department that oversees an extensive park system consisting of 10 parks with a total of 258 acres of parkland. Facilities include ball fields, trails, hockey rinks, picnic areas, swimming, and tennis and volleyball courts. In 1990, the city completed a 70,000 square foot community center, which provides a swimming pool, gymnasium, fitness rooms, a community room and several meeting rooms to residents. In addition, there are four county parks in the area.
